Independent living communities are residential settings for older adults who can manage on their own but want to be free of home maintenance. Rent typically covers upkeep, dining options, transportation and activities, but not personal or medical care.
How is independent living different from assisted living?
Independent living does not include help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing or medication management. If a resident comes to need that support, many communities offer assisted living on the same campus or allow an outside home care agency to visit.
How much does independent living cost?
Independent living is generally the least expensive form of senior housing because no care is bundled in. Monthly fees depend heavily on location and apartment size; each profile lists the pricing we have on record.
